A Service of Light
On Tuesday, January 6, 7:00 pm, we are invited to be part of a worship service at St. Mark's populated by the congregations of the New Hope Road Alliance faith communities, Yavneh’s primary social justice engagement.  We will share music and prayers celebrating the mysterious reality that God is with us today as God has been in each and every age.  The worship space at St. Mark's will glow with candlelight -- a visible symbol of God's love bringing light into our heart and souls.  Bring your voice and spirit to this communal celebration of the enduring Divine Presence.

• Shabbat morning worship, Saturday, January 10, 10:30 am.  Spiritual teacher Rinah Rachel Galper will offer a d’var Torah on the opening portion of the book of Exodus, “Sh’mot”.
  
• Kabbalat Shabbat, Friday, January 16, 7:45 pm, “Divine Shape-Shifting”.
  

Please remember to bring donations for the Food Basket or school supplies for Wilburn Elementary when you attend services.  NOTE - Wilburn is currently well-stocked with clothing supplies and does not need any more at this time. THANK YOU!

Rabbi Lynn Claire Feinberg
Mark your calendar now - on Saturday, January 24th, services will be led by Renewal Rabbi Lynn Claire Feinberg, the first (and only) female rabbi in Norway. Afterwards, join the Rabbi for lunch and a broad ranging discussion.  Born in Oslo, Rabbi Feinberg is the founder and spiritual leader of Havurat Kol haLev, the first Jewish Renewal havurah in Oslo. She is also a historian of religion, specializing in women and Judaism. (If you're interested in sponsoring Saturday's lunch, contact Lewis.)

• Reb Raachel will be offering a course on "How Judaism Reads Scripture" through NCSU's Osher Lifelong Learning Center. Starts January 21. More information here.
  
• Finding Meaning in Catastrophe - join Reb Raachel, Dean of the Duke Chapel Dr. Luke Powery, and WUNC Radio's Frank Stasio for an interfaith dialogue examining how creative responses to disaster can lead to renewal and growth. January 25th at the Durham County Main Library. More information here.
  
• Dinner with the Rabbi will be Sunday, January 25th at 6:00 pm. (Location to be announced later.)

• On January 5, at 7:30 pm, There will be a screening of the important new movie Food Chains, which documents the mistreatment of farm workers picking supermarket vegetables. More information is available here.
  
• From Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning, The Real Surprising Talmud, a course taught by Rabbi Ariel Edery, starts January 7th.
  
• Coming up at the Raleigh-Cary JCC (12804 Norwood Road, Raleigh) Scott Blumenthal will lead a discussion of his novel, The Kiss on Monday, January 5, at 12:30 pm.
