Worship services
  • Family-style potluck Shabbat dinner, with Tu B’Shevat seder, Friday, February 6, 6:30 pm. (Details to be announced.)
  • Shabbat morning worship and Torah service, Saturday, February 14, 10:30 am.
Please remember to bring donations for the Food Basket or school supplies for Wilburn Elementary when you attend services.  NOTE - Wilburn is currently well-stocked with clothing supplies and does not need any more at this time. THANK YOU!

Coming up at Yavneh
  • Reb Raachel's course on "How Judaism Reads Scripture" through NCSU's Osher Lifelong Learning Center continues on Wednesday afternoon.
  • Home-Style Shabbat: join Reb Raachel in her home for Shabbat dinner on January 30th, 6:30 pm. In addition to enjoying a pot-luck dinner, Reb Raachel will share her experience at the OHALAH Conference earlier in the month. (OHALAH is a trans-denominational association of rabbis and cantors from Renewal and other communities.) Attendance is limited, so be sure to sign up soon.
  • Men's Spiritual Group meets Wednesday evening, February 4, 7:30 - 9:00 pm.
  • Soul Collage ® continues with two sessions on Sunday, February 8 from 2-5 pm and Monday, February 9 from 1-4 pm.

In the community
  • Celebrate Purim at the North Carolina Museum of Art. Join the Friends of the Judaic Art Gallery on Saturday, February 25th from 7-10 pm for hors d'oeurves, drinks, music, and fun. Details here.
  • St Mark's is collecting books for their J2A Book Sale. There’s a big purple bin in the Concourse where you can drop off your books. If you have too many to carry, contact Bill DuPre at 919-604-1140 or stmarksnews3@gmail.com, and he will come to your home and pick them up.

Upcoming worship services

Shabbat morning worship and Torah service, Saturday, January 24, 10:30 am, co-led by Reb Raachel and Rabbi Lynn Claire Feinberg (see below).

Rabbi Lynn Claire Feinberg

Mark your calendar now - on Saturday, January 24th, services will be co-led by Reb Raachel and Renewal Rabbi Lynn Claire Feinberg, the first (and only) female rabbi in Norway. Afterwards, join the Rabbi for brunch and a broad ranging discussion.  Born in Oslo, Rabbi Feinberg is the founder and spiritual leader of Havurat Kol haLev, the first Jewish Renewal havurah in Oslo. She is also a historian of religion, specializing in women and Judaism. 

There is no charge for brunch, but RSVPs are requested so that we can be sure to have enough food. Pease RSVP via email or online at Yavneh's Meetup group.

Mitzvah Study Group meets this Wednesday evening, January 21, 7:30 - 9:00 pm. Contact Lewis Copulsky for information/RSVP.
Reb Raachel will be offering a course on "How Judaism Reads Scripture" through NCSU's Osher Lifelong Learning Center. Starts January 21. More information here.
Dinner with the Rabbi will be Sunday, January 25th at 6:30 pm. We will be meeting at Champa Thai and Sushi (8521 Brier Creek Parkway #119, Raleigh, NC  27617). Note different location.   
NOTE: The Finding Meaning in Catastrophe program has been rescheduled due to a death in The Rev. Luke Powery’s family. It will be be rescheduled for late summer.
