Renewal Worship
Jewish Renewal takes a "lab class" approach to worship.
While it respects the structure of traditional Jewish services, Renewal also explores the power of varied musical forms; interpretive translations; chant; meditation; simultaneous Hebrew and English readings; silence; and movement to enhance the power of ancient words and music.
One of the terms used for Jewish prayer is davvenen. Sometimes prayer is petitionary. At other times prayer is the joyous affirmation of God as sovereign, as we experience it during religious festivals or at life-cycle moments.
Davvenen represents this broader form of prayer. When we pray in this way, we are trying to live our worship in the Divine Presence. This transforms the individual, the group, and the moment in which we davven. Such prayer assures us of God’s inter-praying with us.
