Who We Are

We are a new community and a diverse one. Since our beginning in April, 2010, Yavneh’s synagogue without walls has already evolved into a vibrant expression of Jewish Renewal in the Triangle.
In our first year 50 family units joined as founding members of the community. Over 360 individuals are receiving our weekly updates.
Thanks to the extraordinary welcome offered Yavneh by West Raleigh Presbyterian Church, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, and Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, whose congregants share their worship and meeting spaces with us, we have places to pray and meet.
Our Shabbat services are well attended. We are the only synagogue in eastern North Carolina with an ordained cantor on staff, and each week we make beautiful music together - accompanied by flute, drums and guitar. As a community we work to renew the richness of Judaism, particularly its prophetic and mystical traditions.
With friends from other faith groups in the Triangle, we explore the sacred values embedded in our various traditions, and through discussion and dialogue lift the burden of misunderstanding that has plagued inter-faith relations in the past.
In May, 2011 our members elected Yavneh's first Board of Directors. This 12-person group is helping the Rabbi build a varied and interesting service and learning schedule, plan for religious holidays and important community activities, and make a strong social action contribution.
Members of our Board organize music, the Book Club, and do-it-yourself Shabbats.
