Board of Directors
In April 2010, a group of enthusiastic Renewal neophytes banded together to form the Triangle’s first Jewish Renewal community.
The timing was perfect. Rabbi Raachel Jurovics was willing and able to provide spiritual leadership. We had a list of over 100 people who expressed an interest in growing Jewishly within a Renewal context. Local Jewish and Christian groups were supportive. The stars were aligned!
We began by selecting a name, Yavneh: A Jewish Renewal Community.
Then we wrote our vision statement:
The Yavneh community participates in a transformational movement grounded in Judaism’s prophetic and mystical traditions, ever seeking the evolving meaning of Judaism as a spiritual practice.
Aligned with the Jewish Renewal movement, Yavneh intentionally transcends Jewish denominational boundaries. In our commitment to deep ecumenism, Yavneh welcomes all spiritual seekers to cultivate the joy, worship, learning, ritual, and devotional practices that deepen the kavanah (spiritual intention) enlivening Judaism at its growing edge.
With a name, a vision and community support we began to build our community.
For our first year, our Organizing Committee reconstituted itself as an interim Board of Directors which was to serve until a regular Board of Directors could be elected. We set the date for our first Congregational Meeting - May 1, 2011.
A slate of candidates for the 2011-2012 Board of Directors was presented to our members. The meeting was very well attended, and many who could not attend in person submitted written proxies. Rabbi Jurovics summarized the achievements of our first year in her Annual Report. The Interim President, Treasurer and Sectretary respectively gave Financial, Operations and Communications overviews.
Yavneh's first member elected Board of Directors was elected. Members of the Board include:
| Rabbi Raachel Jurovics | President: Peter Gabor | Treasurer: Janet Isaacs |
| Communications: Carol Gabor | Social Action: Cindy Block | Lewis Copulsky |
| Stacy Grove | Richard Kahan | Debbie Warren |
| Stephen Jurovics | Jeff Land | Wendee Wechsberg |
The Board of Directors usually meets on the second Sunday of each month at:
North Raleigh Business Center
3rd Floor, Gallery Park Building
4030 Wake Forest Road, 27609
4:00PM - 6:00PM
But check the schedule, as occasionally the date changes. Yavneh members are welcome to attend.
We are also being helped by about 20 dedicated volunteers who are lending their skills and time to community building, interfaith liaisons, event planning and musical enrichment.
We are all absolutely committed to transparency and openness in our operations. Our meeting minutes will be published on this web site each month. As our membership grows, we will find ways to involve people formally and informally in creating the Triangle's first Jewish Renewal community.
If you are interested in becoming involved, there are many ways you can help.
